Charing Cross Hospital, London

Moss Barrett Construction had a team of up to 20 bricklayers working on a new £11m block at Charing Cross Hospital’s mental health unit.

The brickwork was made complicated by course-by-course interchanges between two types of brick.

James Barrett, buyer for Moss Barrett said: "It gives us quality and consistency but, beyond that, it works out more cost-effective in terms of labour costs. If we were to site-batch the mortar on site we would have to bring men in at least half-an-hour earlier every day."
