Increased thermal insulation for buildings is a must these days when energy use, quite rightly, is under great scrutiny. For new buildings thermal insulation can be designed in from the very outset but what about existing building stock, especially that of nine-inch solid brick construction?

External thermal insulation composite systems – often referred to as ETICS for short – can provide the answer. They normally consist of:
  • An insulating layer – generally a board of expanded or extruded lightweight material
  • A reinforcing layer to protect in the insulation against impact
  • A final decorative render finishing layer

Specialist renders from members of the Mortar Industry Association are ideal for finishing layer purposes.

The specialist renders must be able to resist thermal shock, adhere to the background provided and be resistant to an acceptable level of impact.

Renders can be supplied to meet the requirements of all contract specifications, building and local planning requirements.

    The benefits of ETICS
  • Energy savings
  • Improved comfort
  • Weather resistance
  • Reduction of condensation
  • Attractive external appearance
  • No reduction of internal building dimensions.

For further information on renders for ETICS, download the MIA general information sheet available on this page.
