Quality scheme for mortar
Top UK mortar producers have this week signed up to a new quality scheme for factory-produced mortars.
The Mortar Industry Association, whose eight members supply over 90 per cent of the market, have made the new scheme a condition of membership. It carries with it four key customer promises:
- That systems are in place to ensure specifications are met accurately
- That mistakes will be corrected quickly and efficiently
- That rigorous checks will be made on every stage of the production process
- That high quality training and management systems are in place
MIA chairman Neil Beningfield regards the scheme as an important step forward for the industry. "There have been some highly publicised cases of mortar failure arising from site mixing of materials," he says. "It is then vital that we demonstrate that if you buy factory-produced mortar it will be of consistently high quality."
The launch of the scheme follows close on the MIA’s information service which includes a website (www.mortar.org.uk), a video and a series of technical datasheets. More information on the MIA quality scheme is available from Brian James on 020 7963 8000 or email Brian.James@mineralproducts.org.
