Impressive Skills On Show at the Finals
of the Guild Of Bricklayers 2018 Competition

Finals of the Guild of Bricklayers 2018 national competition sponsored by the Mortar Industry Association (MIA) were held at the end of June at Brooklands College, Weybridge, Surrey.

Senior section winner was Sam Yeomans of Stafford College who collected the MIA cup. John Moore of West Suffolk College was second and Morgan Chambers of Barnsley College third.

In the junior section, Adam Schneider, Peterborough Regional College took first place, with Adam Batty, Barnsley College, second and Adam Armstrong, Preston College, third.

Senior contestants were given up to six hours to construct a brickwork model from drawings supplied, while juniors were given an hour less.

MIA manager, Mick Russell, said: ‘The skills demonstrated by these young craftsmen were impressive. The workmanship shown by all contestants at the finals was excellent. At the MIA we are really pleased to be associated with the Guild of Bricklayers in continuing to help develop the skilled workforce our building and construction industries need.’

Mortar Industry Association has sponsored all stages of the competition by supplying mortar through its producer members. Mortar for the final was supplied by Tarmac.
