An absolute privilege to be part (albeit small) of this celebration of brickwork. Great to see the general public ‘having a go at laying’ at various stands as well as the talent on display at the Masters competition. Some amazing models produced in just 10 hours were won by Dean Haywood.
The first day saw the main event of the Juniors taking place, half an hour of speed laying to the same standard as the pros, with some real talent coming through. The junior winner was Harry Stevenson, laying 227 bricks before deductions, 172 after.
The second day held the Hardest Hod competition, marked on speed and accuracy of stacking the 1000 bricks in readiness for the bricklayer to use. The winner was Welshman Dylan O’Shaughnessy.
The main event being the Pro’s speed comp, this year with contestants from America and Australia as well as the UK.
Two-time winner Charlie Collison won the Golden Trowel for the most laid in one hour, before deductions, with an amazing 903 bricks, just 11 bricks short of the world record held by American Bill Boll, who was there to hand Charlie the trowel.
The main event was won by American Cole Stamper, laying 719 bricks after deductions, with Charlie Collison in second with 703 and Tom Humphrey in third with 699.
A big thanks to MPA Mortar member CPI Mortar for supplying the product and keeping an eye on the silos.
Look out on the socials for the full list of winners when Ash, Jack, and Joe have had a rest! Well organised, boys.
